31 classroom instructions children hear every day, with audio in 9 languages
Ready for School: Understanding Classroom Instructions helps children understand what the teacher says and know what to do next. There are 31 instructions, such as "Listen carefully", "Say it loudly", "Walk slowly" and "Pack your bag". Each one has its own jumbo, double-sided resource. The front shows the teacher's instruction with a child doing it. The back asks "What should the child do?" and gives two pictures to choose between. Scan the QR code to hear the instruction in English or one of eight other languages.

Why classroom instructions need practice
Many children talk well at home but find it hard to follow what the teacher says in a busy classroom. To follow an instruction, a child has to understand the words, picture what they mean and then do them. Seeing the instruction, hearing it and choosing the right action gives children practice at all three levels before the school day starts.
How the audio works
- Go to chatterbugs.app and enter the code from your box.
- Choose a language.
- Scan the QR code on the back of any resource to hear the instruction.
In the app you can slow the audio down, replay it, record your own voice as the model and read the text in your language. Audio plays online, so you'll need an internet connection.
Who is it for?
- Children starting school
- Children who need help following classroom instructions
- Children who benefit from visual cues and reminders
- Children with speech or language delays, including children with autism

- Children who need extra support with classroom routines and expectations

How to use?
- Read it together. Show the front and say the instruction, or play the audio.
- Act it out. Pack a real bag, walk slowly down the hall, say something loudly.
- Turn it over. Ask, "What should the child do?"
- Let them choose. Your child points to the picture that matches the instruction.
- Use it for real. Practise during everyday routines at home, and put a few on the wall as visual reminders.
Start with a handful at a time. A few minutes, often, works better than long sessions.
Where it fits
- Before: Position Words Level 1, in, on and under, which turn up in many instructions
- Use alongside: Learn to Ask Questions, asking for help and permission
- Next: Position Words Level 2, movement words used in classroom and PE instructions

- Who We Are
- What Makes Us Unique
Brainy Bug Resources is built by speech and language therapists with extensive clinical experience in mainstream schools, special schools and community clinics. Because language lies at the heart of all learning, our range goes beyond first words, covering vocabulary, grammar, reasoning, emotions, storytelling, phonics and more. Every resource follows the order in which children's language develops.
- Built in developmental order. Each deck has a clear place in a child's language journey, so you always know the next step.
- Audio in up to 9 languages. Hear every word and sentence through the Chatterbugs app, slow it down, or record your own voice as the model.
- Designed to get children talking. Picture-only sides, a monkey character and contrast sets give children a reason to find the words themselves rather than copy them.
- Space for your home language. Writing lines on the back let parents add words in the language they speak at home.
- Made for home, classroom and therapy. The same cards work for a parent at the dinner table and a therapist in a session.
