34 school phrases children need most, with audio in 9 languages
Ready for School: Talking at School helps children say what they feel and need when they talk to teachers and friends. There are 34 everyday phrases, such as "I'm hot.", "Wait for me!", "I don't want to." and "Hi, what's your name?". Each one has its own jumbo, double-sided resource. The front shows a classroom or playground moment with an empty speech bubble, so the child works out what to say. The back gives the phrase. Scan the QR code to hear it in English or one of eight other languages.

Why children need school phrases
Children need language as a tool to communicate. Without the words they need, they might struggle to make themselves understood, form friendships or show the teacher what they know.
How the audio works
- Go to chatterbugs.app and enter the code from your box.
- Choose a language.
- Scan the QR code on the back of any resource to hear the phrase.
In the app you can slow the audio down, replay it, record your own voice as the model and read the text in your language. Audio plays online, so you'll need an internet connection.
Who is it for?
- Children starting school
- Children at school who need help with social skills
- Children who benefit from language support to settle into the classroom
- Children with speech or language delays, including children with autism
- Children learning English as an additional language, or a home language alongside English

How to use?
- Look at the front. Ask, "What could the child say?"
- Wait. Give your child time to think of the words.
- Turn it over. Say the phrase together, or play the audio.
- Act it out. Say "Wait for me!" as you walk, or "I'm hot." while fanning yourself.
- Use it for real. Practise at home and put a few on the wall as reminders.
Start with a handful at a time. A few minutes, often, works better than long sessions.

- Who We Are
- What Makes Us Unique
Brainy Bug Resources is built by speech and language therapists with extensive clinical experience in mainstream schools, special schools and community clinics. Because language lies at the heart of all learning, our range goes beyond first words, covering vocabulary, grammar, reasoning, emotions, storytelling, phonics and more. Every resource follows the order in which children's language develops.
- Built in developmental order. Each deck has a clear place in a child's language journey, so you always know the next step.
- Audio in up to 9 languages. Hear every word and sentence through the Chatterbugs app, slow it down, or record your own voice as the model.
- Designed to get children talking. Picture-only sides, a monkey character and contrast sets give children a reason to find the words themselves rather than copy them.
- Space for your home language. Writing lines on the back let parents add words in the language they speak at home.
- Made for home, classroom and therapy. The same cards work for a parent at the dinner table and a therapist in a session.
